How do I charge a lithium battery?
Redway Lithium batteries perform best when charged by a lithium compatible charger. Lead acid or SLA chargers, on-board chargers for AGM batteries, or other non-lithium chargers will charge a Redway Lithium battery but only to 70-80% of capacity. This is because Redway Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology charges and is full at a higher voltage then traditional batteries (Redway Lithium charges at 14.4 Volts). Chargers with a lithium battery setting or designed for lithium will charge at the appropriate voltage.
Should you keep LiFePO4 batteries fully charged?
For long-term storage applications, lithium batteries should not be stored at 100% SOC. Instead, they should be cycled (charged and discharged) once every six to twelve months and stored at 50% SOC.
Is LiFePO4 better than lithium ion for ebikes?
Yes! This is a key advantage of LiFePO4 batteries over lithium ion batteries because lithium ion batteries can overheat and even catch fire, whereas LiFePO4 batteries do not. Redway LiFePO4 batteries are the replacement for AGM and most lead acid batteries.
Are LiFePO4 eBike Batteries Safe?
Redway Lithium battery is an exceptionally safe and reliable product. Featuring a unique signature chemistry of Lithium Iron Phosphate, it contains none of the harmful metals or rare earth elements such as cobalt, making it nontoxic and not containing lead or acid. Its construction is noncorrosive, with no off-gassing, meaning that no extra maintenance such as watering is required - unlike some other lithium batteries, it won't catch fire or explode either. Furthermore, our battery management system microchip protects from overcharging, overheating and short circuiting while maximising the lifespan; further protection comes from the waterproof case (using too much water can however conduct electricity between the terminals). For optimal performance and reliability we recommend using a LiFePO4 charger.
How do I get the longest battery life out of my LiFePO4 battery?
It is important to top off LiFePO4 batteries after each use to ensure longevity. Please do not fully discharge the battery nor overcharge it by leaving it connected to a charger well beyond the full charge cycle. In the long run, the battery has a limited number of charge and discharge cycles, with one cycle being either the complete charge and discharge cycle or a cumulative of both.
How should I store my LiFePO4 eBike Batteries?
Redway LiFePO4 eBike Batteries should be stored in a cool, dry place, and fully charged before they are stored. LiFePO4 eBike Batteries that are damaged should be disposed of properly
Be sure to handle damaged or overheated batteries with extreme caution, and dispose of them properly. Check your local fire safety regulations, as they may have specific guidelines for e-bike battery disposal.
Why does the battery stop working a few seconds after a high current draw?
It is important to make sure that the load does not exceed the BMS's continuous output current limit. If the load exceeds the limits of the BMS, the pack will be shut down. To reset, disconnect the electrical load and troubleshoot your load and make sure that the continuous current is less than the maximum continuous current for the pack. The battery can be reset by attaching the charger back to it for a few seconds. If your battery requires an additional current output, please contact with us.
Are LiFePO4 eBike Batteries waterproof?
If they are splashed with water, they will be fine. They cannot be completely submerged.
Can you shut off or change the BMS board?
No, you cannot turn off the battery or change the BMS board.
Will LiFePO4 eBike Batteries catch fire or blow up? I heard they are unsafe and a fire hazard.
There is the potential for any battery to fail, sometimes catastrophically, or catch on fire. Moreover, lithium metal batteries are more volatile, do not recharge, and should not be confused with lithium-ion batteries. Redway Lithium Batteries use lithium iron phosphate cells (LiFePO4) for their lithium-ion chemistry, which has the highest thermal runaway temperature of all the different lithium battery types on the market. Some lithium-ion chemistries are more volatile than others, but all have made significant advances in recent years. Also note that all lithium batteries are subjected to rigorous UN testing before shipping worldwide.
Will the cost of Lithium batteries become cheaper?
Lithium materials are about 3-4 times more expensive than lead-acid for the same capacity. This will change as worldwide supply increases.
Can Redway LiFePO4 eBike Batteries be fully discharged and then disposed of in the regular garbage?
It is essential to check and follow your applicable regulations before disposing of LiFePO4 eBike Batteries. Disposing of waste electronic equipment in standard waste receptacles is prohibited in many countries. Keep only discharged batteries in a battery collection container. To prevent short circuits, cover battery connections with electrical tape or another approved covering.
