REDWAY BATTERY / KNOWLEDGE
Which documents should you request with a lithium battery order (SDS, UN38.3 summary, CE)?

Talk / Battery Q&A
A buyer is placing a first order for lithium batteries and is asked by the freight forwarder and the insurer to provide “the paperwork”, without being told which papers.
Direct answer: Ask for the safety data sheet, the UN38.3 test summary, certificate copies for every standard named on the product page, the factory’s quality certificate, the user manual and a datasheet for your exact model. Check that each document names your model, a date and an issuer, and attach the list to the purchase order.
Start from what the pages claim. Redway’s golf cart, 12V and PM-LV 3U pages list “UN38.3 / UN3480 / MSDS / UL 1642 (Cells) / IEC 62133 (Cells) / ISO 9001 (Factory)”. The forklift pages list UN38.3, UL 1642, IEC 62619 and CE, and the PM-LV 5U pages list UL 1642, UL 1973, IEC 62619, IEC 62133, CE, RoHS, UN38.3 and MSDS. Each name on a page is a document you can ask for.
The core set: (1) the safety data sheet; (2) the UN38.3 test summary, which manufacturers and distributors must make available for lithium cells and batteries under the US hazardous materials rules; (3) certificate copies showing certificate number, issuer, applicant, model covered and date; (4) the ISO 9001 certificate if you rely on it; (5) the user manual, which the pages say exists, and a datasheet for your model. The pages do not say which documents exist for each model, so ask per model.
Read the wording. “UL 1642 (Cells)” and “IEC 62133 (Cells)” describe the cells inside the pack, not the finished pack. Ask what certificate covers the pack itself, and which model number it names. IEC 62619 is a safety standard for industrial lithium batteries and appears on the forklift and 5U rack pages. Ask whether the certificate or test report covers your model and which edition it used.
For EU shipments, ask for the EU declaration of conformity that the Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 requires the manufacturer to draw up, and ask how Redway plans to handle the battery passport, which the European Commission says applies from 18 February 2027 to industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Check the rule for your category and date yourself, because phased dates differ by obligation.
File everything by model and order number. Keep the documents with the packing list and shipping papers, so an insurer, customs agent or auditor can find them. Whether each document exists for each model is not published on the site, so confirm availability and dates with Redway in writing before you pay.

Attach a document checklist to the purchase order and make delivery of the documents a condition of final payment. Name the model on each document.

Check that each certificate or report names your model, a recent date, an issuer and the standard edition. A “cells only” certificate does not by itself cover the finished pack.
↳ Replying to Selection/Engineering perspective
Keep the documents in one folder per model and order, with the date received. Re-request them if the model or firmware changes, since a new version may need new test evidence.

Verify before ordering: Which documents exist for each model is not published; confirm with Redway. EU obligations and dates vary by battery category.
