Buyer question

A cart repair shop quotes a lithium pack for a customer’s older cart. The tray was built for a set of lead-acid batteries and nobody has measured it.

Main answer

Direct answer: Measure the usable tray length, width and height, note where cables enter and where the terminals must sit, and compare those numbers with the pack’s published length × width × height and weight. Put the exact model code and your measurements on the order and ask Redway to confirm fit in writing before shipping.

Measure the usable space, not the tray’s outer size. Record the length and width of the floor area, then the height from the tray floor to the lowest obstruction above it, such as the seat deck, a brace or a strap. Photograph the space and mark where the old battery cables enter the tray.

Then compare with the pack’s size. Examples from the product pages: the 48V 100Ah pack is 460 × 334 × 247 mm and 43 kg, the 36V 100Ah pack (S38105) is 385 × 338 × 245 mm and 34 kg, and the 48V 200Ah long-size pack is 940 × 340 × 250 mm and 90 kg. These are the pack body only. Cables, terminals and any hold-down you add need extra room, so leave a margin and ask Redway what tolerance it recommends.

Terminals and cables decide whether a pack that fits actually works. The golf cart pages list M8 terminals and an aviation connector socket for the data port, with optional Anderson or aviation charge connectors. Check where those sit relative to the cart’s cable route and whether you can reach them with a tool. The spec tables do not include terminal-position drawings, so request one for the exact model.

A pack that fits in the tray still has to be restrained. The pages list a metal battery shell and IP67 on these golf cart models, but do not publish mounting points or a recommended hold-down method. Ask Redway how it expects the pack to be secured in your cart model, and do not improvise a clamp over the pack.

Write the order precisely: model code, the measurements you took, the terminal side you need, the cable length required, and the cart make, model and year. Ask for written confirmation of fit. If the tray cannot take any listed model, ask whether a customised pack is possible; the pages state that OEM and ODM customisation is available. Once the pack is installed, our off-season storage post covers care.

Put the model code and the measured tray dimensions on the purchase order. A quote that says only “48V lithium for golf cart” invites a wrong-size shipment and a return.

Compare the pack’s length, width and height with the usable tray, then check cable reach and terminal access. Keep the pack’s weight in mind as well, and ask Redway for a dimensioned drawing for your model.

After fitting, confirm the pack cannot slide, terminals are clear of metal edges and cables have strain relief. Re-check the hold-down after the first week and again after a month.

Verify before ordering: Terminal-position drawings, mounting points and a recommended hold-down method are not published; ask Redway.
