What does a monthly lithium forklift battery maintenance check include when there is no watering?

Talk / Battery Q&A
A maintenance lead is moving trucks from lead-acid to lithium and wants to know what is left to inspect once watering and equalising disappear.
Direct answer: Watering, equalising and acid cleaning go away, but inspection does not. A monthly check should cover connectors and cables, the enclosure and mounting, BMS and cloud data for alarms and state of health, charging and temperature conditions, and records. Redway does not publish a maintenance schedule, so the intervals here are suggestions to confirm against its manual.
What the pages say: the forklift pages list a metal case, natural cooling, IP40 to IP65 depending on the model, Rema connectors and, on the larger models, SoC, SoH, a 4G antenna and a Forklift Cloud Monitoring System. The FAQ text on some pages says lithium needs “zero maintenance”. Read that as no watering, not no inspection.
Connectors and cables (suggested monthly): with the truck parked, switched off and the pack disconnected as your procedure requires, look for heat discolouration, melted or loose parts, bent pins and damaged insulation. Check that connectors seat fully and are free of dust. Replace damaged parts through Redway or the truck maker, not with improvised ones.
Enclosure and mounting: look for dents, cracks, corrosion, damaged seals and signs of movement in the compartment. OSHA requires a reinstalled battery to be properly positioned and secured (29 CFR 1910.178(g)(5)). Check the IP rating of your model before washing near it: the 48V 300Ah page lists IP40, the 48V 450Ah page IP54 and the 36V 250Ah page IP40. Ask Redway for washdown guidance.
Data: where the model has cloud monitoring or a display, review the month’s alarms, over-temperature events, state of health and energy per shift against earlier months. The pages do not publish report formats or alarm codes, so ask Redway what the cloud system shows and how to export it. A truck that needs more charges per shift than last month is an early warning worth investigating.
Conditions and records: the pages list a charge window of 0–55 °C, discharge from −20 to 60 °C and, on the larger models, storage at 5–35 °C. Check that charging is not happening in freezing areas, that charger settings have not been changed and that spare packs are stored within range. Keep a monthly log signed by the inspector, and make sure operators are trained (OSHA’s training topics include charging and recharging of batteries). Torque values and inspection intervals are not published, so confirm them with Redway.

Quantify the labour saved against your own data: hours per week spent watering and cleaning today versus the monthly check above. Claim only the saving you can measure.

What remains: connectors, cables, enclosure, mounting, BMS data and charging conditions. Ask Redway for the alarm list and the cloud report format so the check can use real data.

Use a one-page checklist with torque and clean-down steps once Redway confirms them. Record dates, findings and the person who checked, and photograph any damage when found.
