Buyer question

A 60-cart municipal course converted to lithium last year and wants a simple season-long inspection calendar for the maintenance shop.

Main answer

Direct answer: Split the year into pre-season, peak season and off-season. Pre-season: full charge, inspect connectors, update firmware if advised, and baseline SOC/SOH readings. Peak season: quick weekly or bi-weekly checks for damage, loose lugs, odd range loss and charger faults. Off-season: store at the recommended SOC, disconnect or use sleep mode, and check monthly. Keep one record sheet per cart serial so patterns show up across the fleet.

Pre-season. Pull each cart, charge fully, and walk a short checklist: case damage, cable abrasion, connector pins, main fuse, and display or Bluetooth alarms. Packs such as the 48V 100Ah (S51105), 48V 150Ah (about 7.2 kWh) and 48V 50Ah (about 2.56 kWh) cover different duty levels—confirm each cart still has the capacity class it needs for its route length. Use the golf cart lithium inspection checklist as the detailed form.

Peak season. Focus on exceptions: carts that return early, chargers that never finish, or packs that feel hotter than others. Spot-check torque on lugs after the first month of heavy use. Opportunity charge between waves if the course runs long days, staying within the pack’s charge rating.

Range and accessories. Extra coolers, GPS and lights cut runtime; see accessory loads. A 50Ah pack may suit short loops; longer or hilly routes need higher capacity—see when 50Ah is enough.

Off-season storage. Charge to the storage SOC the supplier recommends, switch off or use sleep/storage mode, and store dry within the listed storage temperature range. Self-discharge is low (the 150Ah page cites under 2% per month) but parasitic cart loads are not; see storage or sleep switch. Check monthly and top up if needed.

Records. Log serial, date, SOC, alarms, and technician initials. Fleet buyers who ordered many packs at once should also keep the original sample/test notes; see questions before buying 50 packs.

Labour planning. Pre-season takes the most hours; peak season is short daily triage; off-season is light monthly rounds. Do not skip the monthly storage check—most lockouts start there.

Escalation. Any swollen case, burnt smell, bent connector or repeated BMS lockout takes the cart out of service until the supplier advises next steps.

Charger bay discipline. Keep one spare charger known-good, label cart-to-charger pairings if voltages differ across the fleet, and reject any non-lithium profile. After lightning storms or shed power loss, walk the bay once for packs left at odd SOC with alarms.

End-of-season handoff. Before long storage, resolve open alarms, replace damaged boots and pins, and note which carts need capacity upgrades next spring so purchasing is not rushed in March.

Standardise one checklist and capacity map (which cart gets 50Ah vs 100Ah vs 150Ah) before the season opens.

Verify before ordering: Storage SOC, sleep-mode behaviour and inspection intervals should follow Redway guidance for the models in the fleet.
